Course REQUIREMENTS
Welcome to World History!
This course will cover the history of the world from Ancient to Modern times, covering the following periods:
Materials:
Classroom Policies:
1. Be in your assigned seat and ready to work when the bell rings.
2. Be prepared to actively participate in every class.
3. Bring required books and materials to every class, unless told otherwise by me.
4. Listen and stay seated when someone is speaking.
5. Follow directions the first time they are given.
6. Turn assignments in on time and check the class website daily for announcements.
7. Treat everyone and his or her property respectfully.
Late Homework and Projects Policy:
Following Coyle’s Freshman Homework Policy, you can expect to be given a detention with 24 hours notice (and an email to your parents) for any homework assignment not turned in. If you do turn it in the following day, you will not need to serve the detention. Late homework will only be accepted one day after it is due, for half credit. Projects, essays, and major assignments will drop one letter grade increment (eg. from a B+ to a B) for each day that they are late.
Absence
If you have been absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed. Tests must be taken on assigned date, even if you were absent the day before. Absence does not excuse you from taking a test; the assumption is that studying is an on-going process, not a day-before event. If you are absent on a test date, you must schedule to take that test ASAP before school, after-school, or during study. Missed homework must be turned in ASAP. Per Coyle’s homework policy, I may grant you up to five school days to turn missed work. However, usually the full five days are granted for extreme emergencies or long-term absences.
After-School Help:
I am available any day except Wednesday after school, or by appointment before school or during Periods C and E. See me after class or contact me via email, [email protected], to arrange an appointment.
Grading Procedures:
Tests 100 points each
Projects/Essays 50-100 points each
Quizzes 20 points each
Homework 4 points each
All grades are calculated simply by dividing the total number of points obtained by the total points available at the end of each quarter.
All assignments should clearly state your name, the due date, an identifier of which assignment it is and which block you are in at the top of the paper. It is your responsibility to turn assignments in on time, legible, and fully completed. Full credit will only be given on the day/class the assignment is due – not at the end of the day.
